Why Dresden?

  • State-of-the-art research with a specific focus on molecular bioengineering is the cornerstone of the development of life sciences in Dresden. This focus was initially sparked by the establishment of the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics (MPI-CBG). Together with The Max Bergmann Center of Biomaterials Dresden and the Biotechnological Centre (BIOTEC) at Dresden University of Technology (TU Dresden), a unique research network was created. At the core of this collaboration is the DFG Research Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden, which was established in 2006.

  • Dresden offers a variety of attractions, including such architectural highlights as the Dresden Zwinger, the Frauenkirche Church, Semper Opera House and the Royal Palace. Dresden is also renowned for its art treasures, including Raphael's "The Sistine Madonna." Promenades on the bank of the Elbe, museums and industrial monuments are among the many other attractions.

  • The surrounding area features palaces and castles that recall the Wettin dynasty. In the parks and gardens, such as Pillnitz and Gross-Sedlitz, or in the vineyards around Radebeul you can enjoy the landscapes and native flora and fauna on walking tours. Or take a trip in a relaxed atmosphere on a steamer from Dresden to Saxon, Switzerland and let the unique Elbe landscape with its palaces and castles pass by.
